LANSDALE, PA — Crews will begin constructing a new pedestrian bridge in Wissahickon Park in Lansdale next week to replace the temporary structure that was put up months ago.

The existing structure will be shut down beginning on Monday, May 4 as work gets underway.

It's believed the work will take approximately two weeks to complete, officials estimated.

However, the borough swiftly reopened the bridge after complaints from residents that the detour used by Knapp Elementary children on their way to school was not safe. The reopened structure was a temporary measure, however. Commercial aluminum staging was laid over the existing bridge, creating an "independent pathway."

The new bridge will be a permanent structure. The construction timeline is dependent on the weather.
