Students and adults going 'nets' for supreme skills of Lansdale's Elite Tennis Clinics.

Tennis balls ricocheted from one end of the courts to the other at during the borough’s first Elite Tennis Clinic.

While the youth clinic was cancelled due to low registration, the elite clinic for more competitive players and the adult tennis clinic are in full swing, with nine and five current participants, respectively. The elite clinic takes to the courts from 9 to 11 a.m., while the adult clinic takes over from 7 to 9 p.m.

The elite clinic aims to teach students skills for singles and doubles matches, said clinic instructor Steve Wherry.

“The main focus is on everyone having fun while learning the basics and fundamental,” Wherry said.

Wherry comes from a tennis background; he used to play in high school for Central Bucks West. He recently received his tennis instruction certification.

Wherry’s fellow instructor, Renee Di Domizio, was a former number-one ranked tennis player at Kutztown University and previously taught the junior varsity tennis team at North Penn High School.

The instruction team brings personal experience and professional certification to the tennis clinic, Wherry said.

Wherry said it’s good to get both kids and adults out and moving, rather than sitting on the couch.

Di Domizio said she is glad adults have come to the night clinic because then their children will be more likely to play tennis.

“It’s a good family sport,” Di Domizio said.

And for Di Domizio and Wherry, it really is a family sport, with their children participating in the camp.

Wherry’s children have both played tennis for almost seven years, and both said they enjoy the camp.

“I think it’s really good for people who want to improve on their skills,” Marisa Wherry, 16, said.

She added that she believes the camp is great for any skill set and they all will learn ways to improve.

Marisa said that her favorite part of the camp is at the end when they get to review everything they learned that day.

Gabriella Di Domizio said her favorite part of the camp is “pumping every up.”

“I like making it fun for the kids and making them excited,” Gabriella, 15, said.

Registration is still open for the children and adult clinics for the second session next week. For more information or to register, contact the at 215-361-8352.
