Montgomery County Community College Receives $10K Grant For 'Gateway To College' Program

The $10,000 grant will help the school's "Gateway to College" program which helps students who have dropped out of high school.

BLUE BELL, PA — Montgomery County College received a $10,000 grant this week from the PECO Foundation to support a unique program that helps high school students that are struggling.

The $10,000 grant will help the school's "Gateway to College" program which helps students who have dropped out of high school complete their high school diplomas in college-based programs while also earning college credits.

“At PECO, we power programs and initiatives that are helping our youth achieve a well-rounded education and that provide a broad spectrum of opportunity,” said Ron Bradley, vice president for gas operations at PECO. “We are proud to join Montgomery County Community College to support a program that enables encouragement and hope for its students.”

The award was presented to Gateway program director Keima Sheriff at the Gateway Awards Ceremony on May 25th, during which the 100th graduate of the program was acknowledged.

Sheriff said PECO has contributed $65,000 to the program since its launch in 2013.

MCCC's Gateway program is one of 40 similar programs at community colleges across the country. It was one of just eight of those programs to receive an Excellence Award from the Gateway to College Network this year.
