North Penn Students Excel In Foreign Languages Contest

Several North Penn students placed highly in a recent foreign languages competition against other Montgomery County high schools.

LANSDALE, PA — Eight North Penn students earned high rankings in a recent foreign language competition against other schools in Montgomery County.

The annual James J. Doyle Oral Proficiency Contest was held on Feb. 28 at Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School.

The contest involves an interview with a judge in the first round, followed by another interview in the second round if the student advances. Finalists are asked to perform a role play on given topic in front of the audience, organizers said.

The following North Penn students placed either first or second in their particular competition:

  • Zachary Karpf (Penndale Middle School, Grade 9) Second Place, Level 0I
  • Lamya Shusmi (NPHS, Grade 11) First Place, Level I
  • Peter Ng (NPHS, Grade 10) Second Place, Level I
  • Ella McCoy (NPHS, Grade 12) First Place, Level II
  • Abir Islam (NPHS, Grade 11) First Place, Level III
  • Peter Lee (NPHS, Grade 12) Second Place, Level III
  • Christine Ma (NPHS, Grade 12) First Place, Advanced
