North Penn Welcomes Former Alum, Philly Poet Laureate
Yolanda Wisher, the Philadelphia Poet Laureate, returned to her alma mater North Penn last week.

LANSDALE, PA -- Yolanda Wisher, the Philadelphia Poet Laureate, returned to her alma mater North Penn last week as part of a special event.
She was a guest in a Speakers Series called "Celebrate the Arts," which is funded by a grant from the North Penn School District Educational Foundation.
Wisher, who graduated from North Penn in 1994, was named Philadelphia's third Poet Laureate for the 2016-2017 term. She was appointed by Mayor Jim Kenney.

Wisher has published extensively and has also done work in community activism.
During her visit last week, Wisher spent time with creative writing students in Janet Kratz's workshop class.

She also rehearsed with the African-American Awareness Club's "Colors of Pride" assembly program, and presented to the student body during two separate assemblies.
