Old Forty-Foot Road Rehabilitation To Begin Over Skippack Creek
Construction on the structurally deficient bridge, which connects Towamencin and Lower Salford over Skippack Creek, will begin in late Oct.

TOWAMENCIN, PA — Construction on the structurally deficient bridge which connects Towamencin and Lower Salford over Skippack Creek will begin in late October, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced this week.
The Old Forty Foot Road Bridge will be closed for around eight months, officials said. Completion of the project is expected in June 2018.
The road will be closed between Township Line Road and Kober Road during the closure. Motorists will be detoured over Sumneytown Pike, Bustard Road and Route 73 (Skippack Pike), officials said.

During construction, the bridge, built in 1840, will have its stone masonry arch repaired by reinforcing its walls and barrier. The guard rail and supporting abutments will also be replaced.
The bridge typically carries an average of 5,846 vehicles per day, PennDOT said.

Motorists should allow for additional time in traveling through the area.
Construction will begin Monday, Oct. 30.
