PA Turnpike's Northeast Extension To Be Shut Down Through Weekend
The Northeast Extension will be shut down for 55 hours this weekend. Here's what you need to know.

A portion of the Pennsylvania Turnpike's Northeast Extension (I-476) will be shut down for the entire upcoming weekend, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced.
The closure will impact the thousands of motorists who routinely travel the road every weekend.
The road will be shut down from 9 p.m. on Friday night, Oct. 13, through 4 a.m. on Monday morning, Oct. 16. The closure will stretch from milepost 56 to milepost 74 , roughly between the Lehigh Valley and Mahoning Valley exits off of I-476, PennDOT said.

The Friday evening and following Monday morning commutes should not be impacted.
The 55-hour shut down, while unusual, is necessary for construction crews to destroy and replace a deteriorating bridge that is located near mile marker 57.66.

Without the weekend-long closure for the accelerated bridge installation, motorists could instead be looking at increased traffic over a lengthy period of time, including frequent lane restrictions.
During the closure, drivers will be detoured over Interstate 80 and Routes 22 and 33.
