Towamencin's Kriebel Road Trail Considered For More Funding

Towamencin's Kriebel Road Trail is among several Montgomery County trails projects that are being considered for additional funding.

TOWAMENCIN, PA — Great news for outdoors lovers in Montgomery County: several projects in the area are being considered for additional funding, including Towamencin's Kriebel Road Trail.

The news comes as the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission's (DVRPC) Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program, which uses funds related to alternative forms of transit like walking or cycling, disburses funds to two county projects.

One of those projects is a trail which will run continuously through Abignton Township from Jenkintown to Rockledge, where it will connect with the Pennypack Trail. The route will pass by Abington Friends School, Abington Arts Center, Alverthrope Park, Manor College, and Huntingdon Pike's commercial stretch, the county said.

The program recently awarded about $8 million in grants to 10 trail projects statewide, including two in Montgomery County (the other aims to extend the Cynwyd Trail in Lower Merion).
