Wind Energy On Towamencin Rooftops Debated

TOWAMENCIN, PA -- Proposed rules and regulations surrounding wind energy systems on township rooftops have been discussed at several recent planning commission meetings, according to a report.

Current zoning codes don’t really address alternative energy sources, The Reporter states.

Regulations concerning solar energy systems were debated and passed over the course of the last two years. Now, officials are looking at similar regulations for wind systems.

Rooftop wind energy systems are currently prohibited on residential roofs, the report states.

The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) reportedly advised either banning the systems or instituting complex engineering requirements.

Safety issues included structural issues, what happens if the systems get blown off the roof, and difficulty of fire crews accessing the home in an emergency.

Currently, there are no regulations, and residents are able to install any system freely.
