A New Jersey man was arrested over the weekend for putting needles in Halloween candy and then making a false report about it, police said.

Gloucester Township police say they have charged Robert Ledrew, 37, with making a false police report after he told authorities he found sewing needles in four separate pieces of candy from Halloween trick or treating.
An investigation by detectives revealed that Ledrew made up the story and had put the needles in the candy bars, police said.

The incident followed reports of candy with needles found in Chester County over the weekend.
Police in Kennett Square say they received several reports of tainted Halloween candy.
A “needle type item” was found inside five wrapped Twix bars given to four different children the evening of October 31 in the Stenning Hills area of the Borough, police said.
Another incident was reported Sunday, when someone told police a needle was found in a Snickers bar. “The child from this incident visited streets from D st south to the area of Center and South streets,” Kennett Square police said.
No one has been injured from the alleged tainted candy, police said.
The investigation is ongoing.
