Racoon Tests Positive For Rabies On Collegeville Road

Police urge any local residents or pets who may have had recent contact with a wild animal to call the county health department.

LOWER PROVIDENCE, PA — A racoon tested positive for rabies recently in the local area, police said.

The rabid animal was located on the 200 block of Collegeville Road on May 3.

Health officials urge any residents who may have been bitten or scratched by a racoon or had saliva exposure to seek out medical attention.

"If you, someone in your household, or any of your pets have possibly had contact with a skunk or any other stray or wild animal, immediately call the Montgomery County Office of Public Health, Division of Communicable Disease Control at (610) 278-5117," Lower Providence Police said in a statement issued Tuesday.

A low-cost rabies vaccine clinic will be held at the Abington Recycling Center from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 18. For more details, see here.
