Delco Catholic Official Admits To Taking Money From Retirement Home: Report

Monsignor William Dombrow allegedly diverted money to cover debts, attend events, gamble, and more.

A Delaware County Catholic official who is accused of embezzling more than $500,000 from a retirement home recently pleaded guilty to charges in court. Monsignor William A. Dombrow, 77, of Darby admitted to using those funds on himself.

Dombrow said in federal court that he took money from the Villa Saint Joseph Retirement Home in Darby for years to cover gambling debt, pay for concerts and meals, and take trips to casinos as far as Aruba, according to Philly.com.

Dombrow was charged in early April and is accused of taking $535,000 from the retirement home where he was in control of the home's bank account.

Philly.com reports he pleaded guilty to four counts of wire fraud and faces a three-year sentence at his sentencing hearing in August.

The retirement home's bank account was funded by gifts from wills and life insurance proceeds that were intended for the Archdiocese.
