“No one can predict the timing, severity or duration of each year’s flu season. But just like a sneeze, you know it’s coming, and the best way to prepare for flu season is by getting immunized,” the council said in a statement.
The flu vaccine is recommended for everyone 6 months and older, the county said, and is particularly important for the elderly, pregnant women and people with chronic health conditions.

“As we say every year, the best way to prevent getting the flu, or spreading it to your co-workers and family members, is to get immunized,” County Council Chairman Tom McGarrigle said. “You can see from all of the signs at local pharmacies and clinics that flu vaccinations are now available. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends people get the flu vaccination in October, if possible.”
The Delaware County Department of Intercommunity Health is planning a free flu shot clinic later this month.
The clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at at Sellers Memorial Free LIbrary in Upper Darby.
You must be at least 3 years old to receive the flu shot at the clinic, the county said.
The clinic is being sponsored by the Delaware County Council and Delaware County Department of Intercommunity Health. Call the Department of Intercommunity Health at 610-891-5311 for more information.
