Turn Lights Green Saturday In Memory Of Slain Delco Teen Michael Garr

Michael Garr, 15, was killed April 21 in Drexel Hill. Delaware County residents are asked to turn lights green Saturday in his memory.

DREXEL HILL, PA — Michael Garr was just 15 years old when he was stabbed and killed last week in Drexel Hill.

And one week after his death, Delaware County residents are asked to turn their lights green in his memory.

Community members are organizing the green light campaign for Saturday.

To show support for the Garr family, residents can turn their outdoor lights green or put a green light outside their homes Saturday night.

Those who do so are asked to share a photo of their green light with the hashtag #GreenLightsForMichael.

Residents can also display green Christmas lights, Eagles decor, or green ribbons to honor Garr.

Garr, an Upper Darby High School student, was stabbed to death at about 9:30 p.m. Friday, April 21 on the 200 block of Bridge Street in Drexel Hill.

Upper Darby Police earlier this week said they found a person of interest in the case, but did not say if he was in custody or charged.

Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 27 has offered $10,000 for information in connection with the teen's death.

Police are asking anyone in the Oakview section of Drexel Hill near or off Bridge Street, or along the Baltimore Pike corridor in Clifton Heights, to contact them.

Authorities are also asking anyone who may have surveillance video from April 21, about 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., to contact them.

Anyone with footage of the area at that time should send it to info@udpd.org, or information on the incident should call police at 484-574-1157.

A GoFundMe campaign has been established to support Garr's family.

"The family is devastated and trying to process this senseless act," organizer Michael Peabody said on the page. "Looking to support the family and help to defray funeral costs as they bury their teenaged loved one."

As of Friday morning, nearly $52,700 has been raised by the campaign.
