Man Gets Jail For Head-On Rt. 202 Crash That Killed Solebury Couple

Sean Michael Adee, 34, was charged with a drug-related DUI in Michigan just a few months after the fatal Solebury crash, authorities said.

SOLEBURY, PA — A Montgomery County man has been sentenced to 7 to 14 years for causing a head-on crash that killed a Solebury couple on Rt. 202 in 2015. Sean Michael Adee, 34, of North Wales previously pleaded no contest to two counts of homicide by vehicle in connection with the collision that killed Ian McNeill, 67, and his wife, Jane, 66.

When imposing the sentence, the judge said she was troubled that Adee had been charged with a drug-related DUI in Michigan just a few months after the fatal Solebury crash. That case remains pending, according to information from the Bucks County District Attorney's office.

Authorities who investigated the crash, which included Solebury Township Police and Pennsylvania State Police, said on Dec. 8, 2015 Adee was speeding while going southbound on Rt. 202 near River Road in Solebury when his Nissan X-Terra crashed head-on into the McNeills' northbound Volvo.

The McNeills, who were heading to meet their son for dinner in New Jersey, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Experts who reconstructed the accident say Adee was going as much as 16 miles per hour above the posted speed limit of 45 when the crash occurred. Multiple witnesses told police they observed Adee swerving and driving erratically before the collision.

Homicide by vehicle DUI charges in the case were dropped because Adee's blood sample accidentally was destroyed at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, the District Attorney's office said. A urine sample showed traces of the synthetic opioid fentanyl, but authorities said it could not be concluded that Adee took the drug the day of the crash.

The McNeills were known for their volunteer work and community involvement.

The couple were "pillars of the community," Jane McNeill's brother, Paul McCarten, said in a victim-impact statement. "They were the best of our society, and they leave a legacy for all of us to follow."
