LAMBERTVILLE, PA — There's something fishy going on in Lambertville. The 2019 Shad Festival, an award-winning event now in its 38th year, is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28.

With events like an art auction and live music kicking off on Friday, April 26, what started as a local art show has blossomed into a full-fledged, three-day celebration in Lambertville.

The festival will features art, music, crafts, food and — yes — shad. It also serves as a venue for local nonprofit groups to raise funds.

Here's some of what you can expect at this year's festival:

Art

More than 200 original works of art by local artists will be on display during Shad Festival weekend in the recreation room of the First Presbyterian Church at 31 N. Union St. These works of art will be auctioned off on Sunday at 3 p.m., with proceeds going to scholarships for students pursuing a collegiate career in the arts.

Local school children's art will be on display at the Justice Center, at 25 S. Union St.

Food

Everything from taco salads to fried calamari will be for sale at the food court. There also will be tried and true favorites like shad chowder, hot dogs, fried Oreos, hamburgers, fries and fresh lemonade. There will be an additional food and beer garden in the Lambertville Station parking area.

Music

Live music kicks off at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 26, with a performance by the Shackers. Saturday will see performances by The Mondays, Exit Row and RIPs and Sunday's bands are The Inflexables, Pyrenesia, Therese and Sam Ryan.

All music performances will be on the stage on N. Union Street.

Activities

There will be plenty of kids' activities at Shad Fest. They include face painting, sand art and a whole lot more. Also, shad seining demonstrations will be happening throughout the weekend at Lewis Island.

Reception

An art-auction reception will help kick off festivities from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, April 26. It will be at First Presbyterian Church on N. Union Street.

Attendees will enjoy music and entertainment and light snacks while getting to meet this year's artists and get a head start on bidding on their work.
