Solebury Murder Suspect Ex-Lawyer Admits Leaking Confession Tapes

A lawyer who previously represented Solebury murder suspect Sean Kratz admitted leaking the confession tapes that made headlines last week.

A lawyer who previously represented Solebury murder suspect Sean Kratz has admitted to leaking the audio confession tapes that made headlines last week.

Craig Penglase, former counsel for Kratz, submitted a letter to the Bucks County District Attorney's office acknowledging his role in the release of the tapes. The tapes contain graphic confessions by Cosmo DiNardo in connection with four murders in Solebury Township for which he has since pleaded guilty.

Kratz is also heard on the tapes; he says he participated in the July killings out of fear.

In the letter, Penglase states: “It has come to my understanding that a question has been raised concerning who made public the audio interviews of Cosmo Dinardo and Sean Kratz. Please allow this letter to confirm that I am the individual who made those recordings public.”

The letter was shared Tuesday by the District Attorney's office, which aimed to clear up confusion on who was behind the release of the chilling tapes.

"Some parties" had accused the District Attorney's Office of releasing the tapes, a scenario that agency denied.

"Last week, after the unfortunate public release of audio recordings of defendants’ statements about last summer’s murders of four young men in Solebury Township, the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office made clear that it had no hand in the release," the DA said in a statement.

"We explained that while our office is obligated by the rules of discovery to turn such material over to defense counsel, we as prosecutors are ethically bound to not disclose such material to the general public, so that the integrity of the ongoing litigation is protected," the statement continued.
