WHYY Bridging Blocks: Social Media, the News and the Next Generation

WHYY Bridging Blocks: Social Media, the News and the Next Generation

BREAKING NEWS: You’re invited to a conversation that doesn’t require scrolling, swiping, or fact-checking your uncle’s latest Facebook post!

Remember when getting the news meant reading the morning paper or watching the 6 o’clock broadcast? Now, before you’ve even finished your morning coffee, you’ve received 47 notifications, watched three breaking news stories, and somehow ended up watching a video of a cat riding a Roomba!

The world of news and social media has changed dramatically, but has our ability to make sense of it all kept up?

Join Friends Village and WHYY’s Bridging Blocks for our FINAL community conversation of 2026!

SOCIAL MEDIA, THE NEWS, AND THE NEXT GENERATION

Let’s put down our phones (just for an hour!) and have a real conversation about the digital world we’re living in.

 We’ll explore some big questions:

How do we separate fact from fiction in a world overflowing with information?

Has the nonstop news cycle made us more informed—or simply more overwhelmed?

How are social media platforms influencing our opinions, relationships, and communities?

What does all of this mean for the next generation?

And perhaps the biggest question of all… Can we still disagree without unfriending each other?

No lectures. No shouting matches. No algorithms deciding what you should think. Just neighbors coming together to listen, share perspectives, ask questions, and learn from one another.

THERE’S STILL TIME TO REGISTER!

Don’t let this conversation disappear into your newsfeed! Join us for one final Bridging Blocks discussion before we wrap up 2026.
