CRHS-South Student Named Regeneron Science Star
Council Rock South High School student develops award-winning water filtration project.

Council Rock South senior Amanda Plichta has been receiving impressive recognitions for a three-year long independent science study that has the potential to change the world. Since 9th grade, Amanda has been refining a science fair project that has caught the eyes and interest of many.
Her project, entitled A Novel Renewable Filter for the Removal of Bacteria, Turpidity, and Heavy Metals in Contaminated Water, recently earned her top awards from the Regeneron Science Talent Search Competition. As one of 300 winners in a pool of 1800 participants, Amanda received scholarship money and a cash prize for Council Rock South. As a student scientist, Amanda is interested in changing the world. Her current project successfully purifies water for general consumption for people in developing countries using the indigenous Moringa seed.
In addition to being recognized by Regeneron, Amanda has also participated and won awards through her involvement in Council Rock South Science Fair, PJAS, Delaware Valley Science Fair, Temple University Science Symposium, ISWEEEP, and The Genius Olympiad International Competition.
