CRN Alum Pens Letter To Students Amid Vandalism, Harassment

Brad Moore, Class of 2008, says the vandals and harassers at the school don't understand the impact of their actions.

A Council Rock North High School alum penned a letter to the students in his school in the wake of vandalism and harassment at the school.

Brad Moore, Class of 2008, wrote on Medium that Newtown was founded by William Penn, a Quaker who called everyone "friend."

"I respectfully request that you take a page out of his book, and advocate for peace above all and remember that even your fellow classmates who wrote these slurs are your friends," Moore wrote. "They may be lost, but you can help them find the way."

Moore shared his experiences in attending Council Rock North where he and his classmates all looked relatively similar then moving to North Philadelphia to attend Temple university and ultimately finding himself in Los Angeles living among mostly Spanish-speaking neighbors.

"You are in a very small world right now, and most everyone looks like you," Moore wrote. "It is not a good thing."

Moore said whoever vandalized the school and harassed people has no concept of the impact of their actions.

"Even if the swastikas and hate messages that appeared in your school (my school) were some form of ironic detachment from the issues, it is clear that whoever wrote those words does not understand the impact of those words," Moore wrote. "And if the person who wrote that wrote it from a real place of anger and white supremacy, then I urge you to reconsider your worldview and to remind yourself that you have not seen enough of anything to know much about anyone else, even if I consider you an adult."

Moore encouraged students at Council Rock North to stand up against this behavior at to "let it be known that you do not tolerate intolerance in your school."
