Newtown Arts Company Gearing Up For 33rd Season

The Newtown Arts Company announces its 33rd season of live shows at the Newtown Theatre. Subscription sales are now underway.

The lineup for 2016 includes:

  • “Treasure Island” in March
  • “Mary Poppins – The Broadway Musical” in April
  • “My Fair Lady” by Lerner & Loewe in June
  • “Stage Door” by Edna Ferber & George S. Kaufman in August
  • Agatha Christie’s ”And Then There Were None” in October
  • “Nuncrackers” by Dan Goggin in December.

Children ages 6 through 16 are invited to audition for “Treasure Island,” an adaptation of the Robert Louis Stevenson classic novel of pirate lore. Auditions will be held Monday, Feb. 22 from 4–6 p.m. and Tuesday, Feb. 23 from 4–6 p.m., at the Upper Makefield Firehouse, 1221 Taylorsville Road, Washington Crossing.

Director Jim Banar will be auditioning boys and girls for all roles, with readings from the script. “The youthful cast rehearses intensively for two weeks and performs two matinee shows on March 12,” according to information from the Newtown Arts Company. Audition form and details are available online at www.newtownartscompany.com.

In addition to the live show season, Newtown Arts Company hosts the Stars of Tomorrow summer youth theater program, July 25 through 29, at the Newtown Theatre. Instruction in performance skills and theater basics are slated in the mornings.

In April, Newtown Arts Company will again partner with the Bucks County Playhouse to host the Bucks County Playhouse Student Theater Festival.
