There are currently no plans for a First Fourth celebration in Newtown in 2016, organizers tell Patch.
First Fourth, which in the past was a Newtown tradition, usually features fireworks, a children's bike parade and more to mark the Independence Day holiday on the first Saturday in July.
Paul Salvatore, a lead event organizer in the past, told Patch he did not believe there will be a First Fourth this year, unless the township were to step up and lead the effort.

There is a lack of funding and volunteers, Salvatore said.
This news follows the cancelation of First Night Newtown in 2015. That event, which was held annually on New Year's Eve at Council Rock North, was not held due to "unforeseen circumstances," organizers said in December.

New this year, Washington Crossing Historic Park has announced fireworks on the Fourth of July along the banks of the Delaware River.
