Newtown Quaker Meeting to Host Easter Pancake Breakfast and Egg Hunt

Newtown Quaker Meeting will host its traditional pancake breakfast, special Easter religious service, and an Easter Egg Hunt at the historic Quaker Meetinghouse at 219 South Court Street on Easter morning, Sunday, April 1.

Pancake Breakfast will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m.; a special meeting for worship featuring the children begins at 11:00 a.m. and at 12:00, the hunt begins for hundreds of eggs hidden on the Meetinghouse grounds.

Continuing the tradition at the Quaker Meeting, it will be “Men Only” in the kitchen as they display their skills in cooking their Pancake Breakfast specialty.

Todd Van Hart of Philadelphia will be Head Chef assisted by Eric Armour of Pennington, NJ, Hugh Harr of Langhorne, Rich Richardson and Spencer Richardson of Newtown, and “all able men and boys of the Meeting.”

Van Hart said, “It’ll be hearty food and good fellowship. We’ll put on a good old fashioned Quaker breakfast with pancakes, sausage, milk, juice and coffee for everyone.”

Breakfast will be followed by a special Meeting for Worship at 11:00 a.m. which will include Easter hymns, presentation of flowers for shut-ins, welcoming new babies into the Meeting, and the presentation of Bibles to fourth graders in recognition of their growing participation in the adult activities of the Meeting.

Following the Meeting for Worship, fruit and juice will be served on the lawn while the children join in the hunt for hundreds of brightly colored Easter eggs hidden on the Meetinghouse grounds.

Sarah Buxton, Clerk of the Newtown Quaker Meeting Children’s First Day School, will oversee the Egg Hunt for the children. “Adults bring a dozen or so eggs apiece and the children bring their empty Easter baskets,” said Sarah. “The older students are in charge of hiding the eggs and the middle-schoolers will each have a toddler as a buddy to make sure even the youngest finds some eggs. At the ‘OK’ signal, the children all run off with their Easter baskets, and a good time is had by all.”

Newtown Quaker Meeting (www.newtownfriendsmeeting.org) holds services every First Day (Sunday), with First Day classes for children and adults at 9:45 a.m. during the academic year and Meeting for Worship at 11:00 a.m. Professional childcare is provided. All meetings are open to the public and visitors are warmly welcomed.
