Rolled Ice Cream Shop Opening In Newtown Borough

The phenomenon of rolled ice cream is coming to Newtown.

A rolled ice cream shop will be opening this summer in Newtown. Sworl Handcrafted Rolled Ice Cream will be located off State Street, in the white stand-alone building across the parking lot from Isaac Newton's.

The store, which shared the news in a promoted calendar event on Patch, said the rolled ice cream is made from scratch.

"We start by using a homemade vanilla base recipe using the freshest ingredients from local farms. By pouring the vanilla base onto a cold plate, the ice cream base solidifies into the texture of ice cream, during that process is when the magic happens! While the vanilla base slowly chills into ice cream, we mix and mash your favorite cookies, fruits and sweets into the ice cream to give it the best and most direct flavors," the calendar post says.

Rolled ice cream is a relatively new phenomenon in the United States, but is popular in Thailand. In a January 2018 report, CBS News called it "the hot new dessert."
