Man In Custody Following Barricade Situation In Newtown Township
Newtown Township Police lift 'shelter-in-place' order after taking man into custody following domestic incident in Headley Trace.
NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — A man is in custody following a domestic incident Sunday morning in the Headley Trace development that resulted in a shelter-in-place order being issued by law enforcement.
At approximately 7 a.m., Newtown Township Police were dispatched to a reported physical assault by an armed individual on Independence Place in the Headley housing development off of the Newtown-Yardley Road.
Upon arrival, police said they spoke with a woman who had escaped from the home via the rear of the property. It was reported that the man inside the house was armed with a handgun, police said.

Out of an abundance of caution, police said a decision was made to activate the South-Central Emergency Response Team for a possible barricaded subject. A shelter-in-place order was also issued via social media and through the Headley Homeowners Association around 8 a.m.
"As communication attempts continued, additional law enforcement tactical and investigative methods were utilized," police said. "After approximately 2.5 hours, negotiators successfully contacted the offender who was subsequently placed into custody by police."

There were no injuries to police on the scene, the offender, or any other community member, police said. The woman received minor injuries from an initial altercation but declined medical treatment.
The investigation is continuing and the home is being held for a search warrant, police said.
The man is being processed and is awaiting criminal arraignment.
The incident comes a day after a shelter-in-place was issued in Falls Township in which a gunman killed three family members and was captured after barricading himself inside a home in Trenton, N.J.
