Street Fair Takes It To The Street In Newtown For A Woman's Place

NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — NextGen Rotary knows how to throw a party.

On Sunday, the young adult arm of the Newtown Rotary Club knocked it out of the park with its second Street Fair Fundraiser on South State Street between Centre Avenue and Penn Street.

The late summer street festival bustled with activity with vendor booths lining the street, plenty of food, live music and lots of games and activities for the kids.

This year’s event raised funds for A Woman’s Place, a community-based social change organization committed to the empowerment of women and to ending intimate and domestic violence.

Throughout the event, volunteers with A Woman’s Place handed out information about the agency and its many services and offered kids a chance to create sidewalk art on the street.

In front of the Newtown Hardware House, one of newest members of the Newtown Rotary Club, Andrew Neville, was making a splash for A Woman’s Place.

“The first time was the worst time - it was ice cold,” said Neville who braved the dunk tank for sponsor, Opus Elite.

“I’m at 42 dunks so far,” said Neville, who dressed the part of a 1920s beach goer. “With another half hour to go I’m hoping to reach 50.”

For every dunk, Neville said he would donate $2 to A Woman’s Place.

Not long after he said that, a strong armed girl sent him into the drink for number 43.

“I thought everything went well today. We had a good turnout. I thought it was a success,” said Nathan Breece from NextGen.

Rotarian Paul Salvatore agreed.

“People have been coming in throughout the day eating, trying their hand at the dunk tank, listening to music, checking out the booths and enjoying the entertainment,” said Salvatore. “What I like the most is seeing all the families. The kids are having fun with the games. Their parents are enjoying the food and entertainment. And it’s all benefiting A Woman’s Place.”
