NORRISTOWN, PA — The two men accused of shooting and killing an acquaintance in West Norriton along the Schuylkill River Trail last month were arrested in Atlantic City after a nearly four-hour standoff, the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office announced Friday morning.

Cody Reed, 23, of Norristown, and Marquise Johnson, 23, of Philadelphia, both face charges of first degree murder in the killing of Daquan Tucker, 25, of Audubon.

Authorities became aware that the pair were staying in an Airbnb on North Rhode Island Avenue. U.S. Marshals and Atlantic City Police SWAT arrested Reed without incident at 5:15 p.m., but Johnson was not there.

Police waited and Johnson finally arrived at around 7:30 p.m. They said he barricaded himself inside the unit and refused to come out.

Details of the standoff were not immediately clear, but it lasted until about 11:14 p.m., authorities said.

That's when the SWAT team broke down the door and found Johnson hiding inside a washing machine, according to police.

Police indicated that the killing of Tucker, which took place on March 3, was a robbery gone wrong.

Tucker, Reed, and Johnson all knew each other, investigators said. The trio left the Norristown home of Reed, who was already on probation for robbery charges, at around 7 p.m. on March 2 to walk to the Schuylkill River Trail. A criminal complaint stated that Tucker's friends believed he was going there to smoke.

The DA's office did not say who pulled the trigger or if they knew the exact timeline of events, but Tucker was shot multiple times on Schuylkill River trail, police said.

His body was found by a cyclist at 9 a.m. the next morning about 100 feet down an embankment between the trail and the Schuylkill River, near the border of West Norriton and Norristown.

Both Johnson and Reed will be extradicted back to Montgomery County. No bail is available for first degree murder. A preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
