512 Inmates Let Out From Montco Correctional Facility Since March

Montgomery County Correctional Facility has used a number of methods to significantly reduce is population by 26 percent.

NORRISTOWN, PA — A total of 512 inmates at Montgomery County Correctional Facility have been released since March 12, officials said, noting a 26 percent overall decrease in the prison system since that time.

The inmate population was at exactly 1,000 as of Thursday afternoon, down from 1,342 in March.

Two inmates and three corrections officers have tested positive, four more inmates have been tested for symptoms and are awaiting results, and 210 inmates have been placed in quarantine.

The reduction in inmates has been achieved through a variety of methods. They county has granted early parole in certain cases, and is expanding its electronic monitoring of released inmates. In other cases, sentences for convicts have been deferred until a later date, while fines and other administrative penalties have been used for nonviolent crimes.

Overall, the prison is now at five new commits a day, down from an average of 28 a day in mid-March.
