Montco 'Continuously Reevaluating' When To Reopen Public Parks
Montgomery County parks remain shut down while the county remains the red phase, but officials getting things ready for a reopening.
NORRISTOWN, PA — Montgomery County parks remain closed amid the coronavirus outbreak as the county remains the red phase. However, officials have begun making plans for reopening the parks as coronavirus cases trend in the right direction.
"There are many challenges that need to be resolved when the time comes to open our parks," Montgomery County Commissioner Val Arkoosh said Tuesday.
Specifically, the challenge of maintaining social distancing is an ever-present issue. This is especially true in places like the county's park pavilions, some of which are fairly tight and are often used to accommodate large groups. Stricter measures will likely be put in place.

There will also be enhanced cleaning protocols for trash, restrooms and picnic tables, and special considerations for county campsites at Green Lane Park.
Arkoosh did not provide a timeline for when the county parks may reopen. She noted that they planned to follow the guidance of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, which recommends county parks remain closed during the red phase.

But Arkoosh was optimistic.
"We are getting closer, so do not despair," Arkoosh said.
Meanwhile, may municipal parks and other public spaces like the Schuylkill River Trail remain open.
