Montgomery County Updates Masking Policy

The county is updating its guidance to keep in line with the CDC's latest recommendations. Here's what you need to know.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Masks will no longer be required indoors in Montgomery County, officials announced early Monday, a decision that comes on the heels of plummeting COVID-19 cases nationwide and the CDC's recently updated guidelines loosening restrictions and mitigation measures.

Details on Montgomery County's specific updated guidance will be released at some point this week, but the county says they will follow the CDC's recommendations. The CDC's new guidance is based on three levels of community transmission, instead of four, including low, medium, and high.

"According to this data, Montgomery County is currently in the ‘medium’ level," the county said in a statement. "At this level, masks are no longer required in indoor public settings for individuals who are healthy and who are not caring for someone who is at higher risk for severe COVID-19."

Individual businesses, school districts, and other entities can still choose to enforce masking policies.

The county continues to recommend that those with a higher risk for COVID-19 speak with a healthcare provider about choices on masking and other protection measures.

The county continues to operate four free vaccination sites throughout the area for residents who have not yet received a shot.
