New $837K Norristown Fire Truck Goes Into Service

"The Norristown community is deserving of quality and reliable vehicles and equipment."

NORRISTOWN, PA — Norristown's brand new fire truck has officially gone into service, officials announced.

Though the truck arrived a few weeks ago, the first day for the 2018 Emergency One Quint was Dec. 31, 2018.

The new truck, with a $837,000 price tag, replaces a 2001 American LaFrance Quint, the municipality said. Officials described that truck as "ailing."

"The Norristown community is deserving of quality and reliable vehicles and equipment," Council President Sonya Sanders said in a statement. "The firetruck purchase confirms Council’s commitment to put the safety and the needs of our residents at the forefront."

The truck was purchased using funds from the municipality's $10 million capital improvement plan, the first in Norristown history, which was launched in 2017.

The truck is specifically designed to navigate Norristown's tight and narrow streets, officials said.

In addition to a 500 gallon water tank, it includes a 78-foot aerial ladder, saws, and numerous types of rescue equipment on board. It stands about 11 feet tall, and has a life expectancy of around 15 years.
