Norristown To Weigh Kennedy Kendrick Redevelopment, Apartments

The former high school could soon be home to 325 apartment units and townhomes.

NORRISTOWN, PA — The former site of Kennedy Kenrick High School in Norristown could soon become home to a multi-family development, as the municipal council will weigh the latest formal proposal for the site during a work session meeting Tuesday night.

The proposal, years in the making, calls for 325 apartment units, townhomes, and multiplexes from Progressive New Homes. Zoning codes and legal language have been altered or modernized through numerous motions with council to pave the way for the development.

Kennedy-Kenrick opened in 1993 as a part of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, but closed for good in June 2010 when it merged with another school to form Pope John Paul II.

Progressive New Homes is behind other Norristown revitalization and development projects, including Arbor Mews and Arbor Heights.

Organizers are hoping to move fast to begin construction soon. In the past, the developer said that they hoped to put homes up for sale on Kennedy Kenrick property by the spring or early summer of 2023.
