Citizens in support of securing perpetual preservation for the Patterson Farm in Yardley PA have signed a petition to township supervisors. Nearly 1,500 signatures have been gathered thus far.
Township officials have planned to sell off a 5 acre parcel containing the historic Satterthwaite house (c. 1760), thought to be the oldest frame built home existent in the township. Sale plans have met with vigorous opposition from the public, members of the Patterson family, and historic groups who had hoped to be allowed to restore the home and keep the farm intact.
Despite opposition, township officials plan to move ahead with the sale for Commercial development. The township obtained the farm for preservation purposes in a controversial Eminent Domain condemnation in 1998 from its owners, Thomas and Alice Patterson.

A zoning hearing is planned to consider a request by the potential buyer for numerous variances. Citizens have complained that the sale documents were altered unfairly by township officials to suit the specific purposes of the potential buyer. The public is invited to attend the Zoning hearing at 7:30 pm on Tuesday June 18th at the Lower Makefield Township municipal building, 1100 Edgewood Road, Yardley PA.
