Attempted Bitcoin Fraud, Car Accidents: Northampton Police Log

Last week, police responded to 21 alarms, 24 abandoned 911 calls, 39 medical calls, four domestic disputes, and 14 bookings.

NORTHAMPTON, PA — Police responded to many traffic accident reports between Sep. 13 and Sep. 19. Read the details:

Monday, Sep. 13

  • After reports of a fire, the Northampton Township Fire Department arrived on scene at Green Valley Drive and extinguished the blaze.
  • Police responded to Middle Holland Road at Saint Leonards for a report of a two-vehicle traffic accident. One car was traveling behind the other when the first car came to a sudden stop. The rear car attempted to swerve and avoid a collision, but was unsuccessful and struck the rear passenger side. There were no reported injuries and neither car required a tow.
  • Patrol responded to 2nd Street Pike at Merry Dell for a report of a two-vehicle traffic accident. One car rear-ended the other, causing that car to spin around and go off the roadway. There were no reported injuries.

  • Police responded to a residence for a report of an assault. Upon arrival, someone was taken into custody for simple assault.

  • Patrol responded to the Holland Center parking lot for a report of a hit-and-run accident. A witness said she saw a car back into another car and leave the area. The witness provided the first car’s license plate. After speaking with the owner of the other car, police went to the damaging car’s address to investigate the accident. The driver was unaware that she struck the other car, but based on the damage to both vehicles, it appeared as though she did. There were no reported injuries.
  • Police responded to 2nd Street Pike at Knowles Avenue for a report of a hit-and-run accident. One driver said another car rear-ended her vehicle and sped away. She described the car as a gray sedan. It appeared as though an Acura logo was imprinted on her car from the collision. She was uninjured.

Thursday, Sep. 16

  • Police responded to Bruce Drive for a report of three “suspicious” men walking around a vacant property. Patrol made contact with the men, who said they were looking at renting the property and showed police permission they had from the real estate company.
  • Police saw a car attempt to make a right turn into the Sunoco Gas Station that missed the driveway and struck the curb. The car sustained a flat tire, but there was no other damage. No one was injured.

Friday, Sep. 17

  • Police responded to Buck Road at Stoneyford Road for a report of a two-vehicle accident. One car rear-ended the other, sustaining minor injuries. The striking car needed a tow.
  • A suspect turned herself into police headquarters for a warrant out of the Department for Simple Assault. She was taken into custody and arraigned without incident.
  • Police responded to 2nd Street Pike for a report of a woman driving erratically. Patrol made contact with the woman, who was suffering from a medical condition.

Saturday, Sep. 18

  • Police responded to East Bristol Road for a report of a one-vehicle traffic accident. The car was traveling on East Bristol Road when a deer ran into the vehicle. There were no reported injuries and the car did not require a tow.
  • Police responded to Windy Knoll Drive for a report of a brush fire. Northampton Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the fire.
  • A complainant reported that he turned on his computer and it was locked. The screen provided a phone number to call. Complainant contacted the number and spoke with an unknown subject who he said had an Indian accent. The person convinced the complainant to log into his Wells Fargo account and then attempted to convince the complainant to purchase Bitcoin. The complainant refused and hung up the phone and then went to Wells Fargo. An associate at Wells Fargo informed the complainant that someone had been able to make several transactions from the complainant’s account to an unknown account.

Sunday, Sep. 19

  • Police responded to Buck Road at Stoneyford Road for a report of a two-vehicle traffic accident. The first car turned in front of the second, causing a traffic accident. There were no reported injuries and neither vehicle required a tow.
  • Police responded to New Road at Mehler Drive for a report of vandalism. Complainant reports while traveling westbound on New Road that an unknown person threw eggs at his vehicle. The person was gone prior to police arrival.
