
Bucks County students entering second through sixth grade are invited to register and attend GlaxoSmithKline’s Science in the Summer. This free and fun experiment-oriented program is taught by certified teachers to groups of 15 students in two age groups: children entering second and third grades (Level I) and children entering fourth through sixth grades (Level II). GSK’s Science in the Summer is sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in partnership with The Franklin Institute and local libraries.
GSK’s Science in the Summer program will introduce Bucks County students to Physics using six kinds of Simple Machines - lever, inclined plane, screw, wheel, pulley and gear. Students will build simple machines that help people to do work more easily, such as lift huge boulders, build bridges, pump water, etc. Students will learn about motion, discovering that everything in the universe moves and why.
In Bucks County, GSK’s Science in the Summer program consists of four 45-minute classes given over the course of one week. Sessions are offered in the morning (Level I: 10 - 10:45 a.m., Level II: 11:15 a.m. – Noon) and in the afternoon (Level I: 1:00 - 1:45 p.m., Level II: 2:15 - 3:00 p.m.), except where noted below.

GSK’s Science in the Summer opens young minds to the world of science and fosters a life-long appreciation of learning. Almost 116,000 students from the Greater Philadelphia region have participated in GSK’s Science in the Summer since its inception.

Registration for all Bucks County Libraries is open May 1 - MAy 31, 2013.
Parents must register in person at the library they wish their child to attend. The selection process varies by library. Students are selected to participate either through a lottery or on a first-come basis.
