Raja Yoga Classes
"RAJA" means "royal" and "YOGA" means "to yoke" or "to unite." So RAJA YOGA means "the royal path to union." Yoga is an ancient science that was developed thousands of years ago in order to help mankind realize their unity with the world around them. The ancient sages developed a system of meditation, relaxation, postures and cleansing techniques designed to heal, balance and cleanse the entire system of body, mind and spirit. The Raja Yoga classes focus on the traditional and classical styles of yoga which are taught in the Himalayan tradition and include postures, breathing, meditation, philosophy, and handouts. These classes aim to teach students to turn inwards and encourage self-development and empowerment from within, which in turn will increase their quality of life.
The classes are at beginner level with a strong focus on injury prevention. Over time, Diana will assist the students to refine the poses they learn and gradually teach them how to take the postures into deeper stretches when they are ready. The students are strongly encouraged to practice outside of class as well and are taught a variety of tools for stress relief, decreasing anxiety, anger management, enhanced concentration, self-discipline, etc. along with the obvious physical benefits of yoga i.e. body awareness, improved breathing and posture, increased strength and flexibility, improved circulation, lower blood pressure, improved health of organs, etc.
No experience is necessary and all shapes, sizes, and ages are welcome!
Bio of the Instructor
Diana is a registered yoga teacher (RYT) through the yoga alliance and a certified Reiki Master (RM) trained in the Dr. Mikao Usui lineage tradition. She is a compassionate individual who enjoys assisting and encouraging others to reach their highest potential. She understands the intense pressure and overwhelming stress that many individuals face in our modern society and is very sympathetic to others' circumstances. After feeling unfulfilled with her studies in engineering and her enlistment in the USMCR, Diana felt a strong calling to provide quality, heartfelt care and assistance for other beings. She has gained a lot of patience and experience working with children and adults of all ages who have been diagnosed with developmental disabilities, autism, mental health issues, alcohol and substance abuse, emotional disturbances, and other challenges.
Diana fell in love with the Himalayan traditional style of raja yoga while she was going through some difficult transformations in her own life. Through this style of yoga, along with the practice of various holistic healing techniques such as Reiki which she has been practicing since 2007, Diana has learned to regain control of her mind, body, and spirit.
She is very passionate about her practice and has a strong desire to teach and share with others around her what she has learned so far on her path towards Self-realization. She looks forward to meeting new individuals as she strongly believes everyone has something to share with and learn from each other!
