Northampton Gets State Funds For Opioid Fight, Senior Center

State Rep. Helen Tai announced the $133,000 in funding for Northampton on Tuesday.

NORTHAMPTON, PA — More than $130,000 in state grants are headed to Northampton Township to improve the local senior center and help combat the opioid crisis.

State Rep. Helen Tai announced the grants Tuesday as part of $263,000 in state funding going to projects in Northampton, New Hope and Solebury.

In Northampton, the largest grant is $95,000 for the Northampton Township Senior Center to replace its roof and heating and air conditioning system. Another $20,000 will go to the Council Rock Coalition for Healthy Youth for its opioid managed medications program and $18,000 will go to the Northampton Township Library for opioid and Narcan training.

Narcan is a drug that can be administered to prevent overdoses.

"I am proud to be able to continue delivering investments that address the issues most important to my constituents," Tai said in a news release. "These grants will help increase handicap accessibility, fund senior programs, continue community improvements and help address the opioid crisis locally. I am excited to continue working with my constituents, local organizations, businesses and governments to continue securing funding for programs that are vital to improving the quality of life for residents."

All of the grants announced Tuesday were for the full requested amount by each applicant and were awarded by the state's Department of Human Services, Tai said.
