Thefts From Mailboxes Under Investigation In Northampton Twp.
Northampton Township Police said two streets have been targeted recently. The crime was a major issue for the township last year.
NORTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP, PA —A crime that plagued the township over the past few years has returned.
The Northampton Township Police Department is investigating several reports of thefts from mailboxes in the area of Schan Drive and High Point Drive.
Police are urging residents not to place checks in the mail.

Suspects drive around neighborhoods looking for flags on the mailboxes that are up, police said.
When they see this, they take the mail inside and discard all the unwanted mail. The suspects then wash the checks and cash them, police said.

Police added that it takes several weeks for victims to be notified by the company who never received payment.
Northampton Township Police are offering residents some suggestions:
- Pay bills online
- Go to the store if possible to pay in person
- Drop payment off at the post office
- Hand the mail to your postal worker
Anyone who lives in the area and has recently placed checks in the mail, please check with the companies to make sure they have received payment, police said. Also, check your bank accounts to make sure the check was cashed by the correct party.
Anyone who sees anything suspicious should contact police immediately.
Police said during the last case of mail thefts, the suspects were caught due to prompt notification.
Last April, two men from out of state were charged with swiping mail from boxes in two Churchville neighborhoods.
