World War II Vet's Prayer Book Returned To Bucks County Widow: Report

"It's almost like a miracle."

When a World War II veteran’s prayer book was found by a military family in New Zealand, they wanted to return it to its rightful owner, according to a 6 ABC News report.

The family went to the U.S. Embassy in New Zealand for help to find its owner, the report states.

That’s how Newtown woman Patricia DeFinis got a phone call one day recently.

The prayer missal belonged to her husband, now deceased, Anthony DeFinis, according to the report.

“I’m totally amazed,” Patricia DeFinis told 6 ABC. “I think it’s fantastic that those people would hold onto to it for so long. To me, it’s almost like a miracle.”

DeFinis hand wrote his name and military serial number in the book while a medic in the U.S. Navy and Marines in Okinawa, the report states.

He was shipped to New Zealand briefly when his tour was over before returning home, according to the report.
