Latest On SEPTA Bus Stop Shooting: 2 Teens Charged

Two 18-year-olds were taken into custody this weekend in connection with the shooting that hurt eight teenagers boarding a bus last week.

PHILADELPHIA — Two people have reportedly been taken into custody in connection with the mass shooting that hurt eight teenagers who were going home from school last week.

Police said two people were arrested in relation to the Wednesday, March 6 shooting at Cottman and Rising Sun avenues. Jamaal Tucker, 18, turned himself into police Friday, and Ahnile Buggs, 18, was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals and police during the execution of a search warrant Saturday in West Philadelphia.

During a search at a property on the 900 block of North 42nd Street, authorities found Buggs and a Glock handgun outfitted with a laser sight that was modified to fire automatically. Preliminary results of a forensic analysis show that same gun was used in last week's shooting.

"The arrest of Ahnile Buggs is another example of the Marshals Service’s unwavering
commitment to Commissioner Kevin Bethel and the Philadelphia Police Department in our
relentless pursuit of all who purposefully and violently do harm to our communities," Eric
Gartner, U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, said.

Both have been charged by the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office in eight separate cases representing the eight victims.

Charges filed against both include attempted murder, firearms violations, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person.

Court records show Tucker has also been charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

While two people are in custody, another gunman and a driver are still being sought.

Eight people, ages 15 to 17, were shot at about 2:59 p.m. on that day at that location. One of the victims, a 16-year-old boy, is in critical condition after being shot nine times throughout his body, police said.

The others are all in stable condition after suffering gunshot wounds to various body parts, police said.

All are students of Northeast High School and were waiting for a SEPTA bus when the shooting occurred.

On Thursday last week, police announced a 2019 dark blue Hyundai Sonata connected to the shooting was impounded in Olney after being found on Fern Street after being stolen 7th District on Saturday, March 2.

Police said three handguns were involved in the shooting and 34 empty cartridges were found on the scene.
