40 Road Rage Shootings On Philly-Area Interstates Since 2020: Police
Among those 40 shootings, eight people were hurt, and one person was killed. Police reported 10 highway shootings in 2023 already.

PHILADELPHIA — Pennsylvania State Police have reported an alarming increase in shooting on highways in the greater Philadelphia area over the past few years.
According to data from state police, there have been 40 shootings on interstates in the region since 2020.
Data shows so far in 2023, there have been 10 already.

2022 saw 20 shootings.
Those figures are a sharp increase from 2020 and 2021, which had four and six, respectively.

Eight people have been hurt in those 40 shootings, and one person was killed.
Five people were shot on highways in 2022, one of whom died, and only one person was shot in 2020, 2021, and 2023, according to police data.

Data shows just 12 of the 40 shootings have cleared, meaning someone was arrested or the case was cleared in some other way.
Investigations into the eight shootings that hurt people are still ongoing, police said.
"It can take weeks, months, or even years to bring these perpetrators to justice, but rest assured our investigators continue to work diligently to find those responsible," Pennsylvania State Police Troop K Commander Captain Gerard McShea said. "We remind the public to be vigilant behind the wheel and report suspicious activity."
State Police said drivers should not engage others in road rage situations and focus on getting to their destinations safely.

If drivers find themselves in a road rage situation, police said to pull over and let the aggressive vehicle pass.
Drivers are urged to call 911 if threats are made or a firearm is shown on the roads.
Callers should note the vehicle's make, model, color, license plate, and the driver's description when reporting any road rage incidents.
