Welcome back, Philadelphia. I'm here in your inbox per usual to get you up to speed on everything you need to know about what's going on around town. In today's issue, you'll find...

  • After being wrongfully convicted and spending 30 years in prison, a freed man is shot and killed on the streets of Philadelphia.
  • A Philadelphia judge allegedly predetermined outcomes for her traffic court hearings so she could go on a trip to Florida.
  • So many Philadelphians looked to the sky in puzzlement as fighter jets made quite the roar-but why?

But first, today's weather:

Mostly sunny. High: 41 Low: 25.

Here are the top three stories today in Philadelphia:

  1. Christopher Williams, who spent nearly 30 years in prison after being wrongfully convicted of multiple murders, was shot and killed in Philadelphia almost two years after being released. Philadelphia police responded to the 3000 block of West Lehigh Avenue for a report of a person with a gun on Friday, December 16. When they arrived, they found Williams suffering from gunshot wounds to the head, he was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital. No arrests have been made and a weapon has not been recovered. 2. A Philadelphia judge attempted to rule on dozens of traffic citations before the scheduled hearing date because she planned to be in Florida that day, according to a report made public Monday by the Pennsylvania body that handles complaints of judicial misconduct. Philadelphia Municipal Court Judge Marissa Brumbach, a Democrat, was scheduled to consider 95 traffic citations Jan. 7. Brumbach's request to not preside that day because she would be in Florida was not approved. Instead she pre-determined the cases by marking files, guilty and not guilty and went on her trip. pennlive.com
  3. A fighter jet was buzzing the Philadelphia area Monday morning after a civilian plane entered restricted airspace. According to NORAD, a F-15 fighter jet was sent to intercept a civilian aircraft at about 9:20 a.m. Monday. Authorities said the aircraft entered a Temporary Flight Restricted area without proper clearances over Wilmington, Delaware because President Joe Biden was in town. (Philadelphia, PA Patch).
