Man Entangled In $400K GoFundMe Dispute Arrested On Warrant

A South Jersey man involved in a dispute over a $400,000 GoFundMe campaign is behind bars on unrelated outstanding warrants, police said Tuesday morning.

Florence Township police confirmed that Mark D’Amico was arrested on the warrants at his home at about 9:20 p.m. Monday night. He was incarcerated in Burlington County Jail.

"The outstanding warrants for Mr. D'Amico's arrest were unrelated to the GoFundMe investigation," according to the police department.

The police department didn't say what the warrants were for, and provided no further information Tuesday morning.

The announcement of the arrest comes one day after it was reported that the attorney representing D’Amico and his girlfriend, Kate McClure, said one or both of them would likely be indicted.

They are the subjects of a criminal investigation into a $400,000 GoFundMe account in which the money they raised for homeless vet Johnny Bobbit Jr. disappeared without explanation.

Attorney Eric Badway reportedly made the comments in a brief after the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office and the Florence Township Police Department executed a search warrant at the couple's home last week.

He said police seized everything of value, including bank statements, which would make it impossible to provide Bobbit's legal team with an account of what happened to the money, as requested as part of a separate civil suit Bobbit filed against the couple.

That suit was filed after Bobbit claimed the couple wasn't allowing him access to the money raised for him through the "Paying It Forward" GoFundMe account. Badway said if one or both of his clients was indicted, he would not represent them in either the criminal or civil suits.

D'Amico and McClure started the campaign for Johnny Bobbit Jr. after the homeless vet used his last $20 to help McClure get gas when she broke down on her way to Philadelphia last year. Bobbit's attorney, Chris Fallon, estimates that after GoFundMe's fees, about $360,000 was raised for Bobbit. Bobbit claims he received $75,000 of that money, while D'Amico and McClure claim he's received $200,000.
