Move Over NYC, Philly Now Has The Best Food: Travel+Leisure

PHILADELPHIA – It's no secret to those of us in the Philadelphia area that the food around here is amazing. The city and its suburbs have multiple James Beard Award nominees and winners, countless dining spots with the "best" of a specific dish, and more brewers, distillers, cocktail and dive bars than we can handle.

However, to others who are unfamiliar with the City of Brotherly Love, they might see New York City as the pinnacle of dining on the East Coat.

Not so fast, say the folks at Travel & Leisure Magazine.

The outlet recently published a piece lauding Philadelphia's food scene, which it says even tops Boston and New York.

The piece, which you can read in full by clicking here, explores what the experts with the publication believe to be Philadelphia's best places for various dining experiences.

These are the contenders that put Philly in the spotlight of the food world, according to the magazine:

• Cocktails: Upstairs Tiki at the Franklin Bar
• Brunch: Walnut Street Café
• Ramen and dumplings: Cheu Fishtown
• Date night: The Love
• Big group dinner: Suraya
• sandwiches: Middle Child

"I’ve always thought that Philadelphia and New York shared a lot of the same energy, virility, and heart," Philadelphia native and famous restaurateur Stephen Starr told the magazine. "But in Philadelphia, we have bigger footprints in which to create."
