- In Philadelphia, snow must be removed from sidewalks within six hours after snow stops. At least 36-inch wide paths must be cleared on sidewalks. Snow should not be deposited into the street. Those who do not clear sidewalks face a minimum $50 penalty, and up to $300 for each violation, per the Philadelphia code. Residents can report uncleared sidewalks here.
- When shoveling, be sure to include curb cuts, and clear snow from neighborhood sewer drains to allow melting snow to drain. Additionally, keep fire hydrants clear by shoveling three to five feet around hydrants, so firefighters gain them access safely during an emergency response.
