Philadelphia's Wing Bowl Ending After 26 Years

It started in 1993 because the Eagles didn't get to the Super Bowl. Now with a title in hand, 94WIP is ending the wing-eating contest.

PHILADELPHIA – It's a sad day for Philadelphia, as the end of the annual Wing Bowl was announced Tuesday morning.

94WIP's The Morning Show host Angelo Cataldi announced on air that after 26 years of wing-eating competition, the contest is done.

"Wing Bowl, after 26 years, is being put to rest this morning," Cataldi said into his mic Tuesday morning.

After saying the choice the difficult, Al Morganti said why the cherished event is ending.

"The only reason we ever did this was the Eagles not going to the Super Bowl," he said. "So the Eagles went to the Super Bowl and won the Super Bowl!"

"It was the greatest idea you ever had," Cataldi told Morganti.

"That's true," Morganti responded with a laugh.

The Wing Bowl began in 1993 and its last installment was the 2018 Wing Bowl in which Molly Schuyler won by eating 501 wings, setting a new Wing Bowl record.

Of course, the public did not enjoy the news of the Wing Bowl's farewell.
