While the crowds in the streets near the Forrest Theatre made for quite sight on Monday, the online process was equally wild. Customers had to first pre-register in order to have the opportunity to buy a ticket. Then, once they received a pre-registration code, they waited online for their turn to buy.

Tickets ranged in price from around $200 to close to $1,000.

The Tony Award-winning musical about Alexander Hamilton traces the stateman's career, from persuading New Yorkers to agree to ratify the U.S. Constitution to serving as the country's first treasury secretary.

Theater-goers can expect to see a show that moves at a brisk pace. "Hamilton" immediately launches into a rapid-fire rap about the founding father, who was many things: a lawyer, military leader, economist, journalist, political scientist, and government official.

A limit of four tickets per household are available.

The show will be at the Forrest Theatre on Walnut Street in Philadelphia from Aug. 27 through Nov. 17.
