Pennsylvania Has 17 Of Newsweek's Best STEM High Schools In 2019
Five hundred schools have been named the nation's best for science, technology, engineering and math.
Pennsylvania has 17 of the best 500 high schools in America which focus specifically on science, technology, engineering and mathematics, according to a new ranking.
The Newsweek report, released earlier this month, shows Germantown Friends School in Pennsylvania is the state's top STEM school, with an overall score of 96.66 out of 100.
Located just off Germantown Avenue in Philadelphia, the Quaker-affiliated school has been active since 1845. The school placed 41st overall on the Newsweek list.

“With high-profile institutions in big urban areas and small but strong programs across the nation, America’s future in science, technology, engineering and mathematics is in good hands,” the report’s researchers said.
Newsweek and STEM.org determined the rankings by utilizing regression analysis to evaluate which primary and secondary institutions in America best offer students quality experience in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, while also preparing them for post-school life.
Texas had three schools crack the top 10 best STEM schools overall in the country, including the top two institutions.
School of Science and Engineering, located in Dallas, Texas, was ranked as the No. 1 STEM school in the United States.
STEM schools in eight different states made the top 10.

- School for the Talented and Gifted: Dallas, Texas
- Stanford Online High School: Redwood City, California
- Bronx High School of Science: Bronx, New York
- University of Chicago Laboratory Schools: Chicago, Illinois
- Liberal Arts and Science Academy: Austin, Texas
- The Early College at Guilford: Greensboro, North Carolina
- Maine School of Science and Mathematics: Limestone, Maine
- Cranbrook Schools: Bloomsfield Hills, Michigan
- Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science: Worcester, Massachusetts
