Nearly Half Of All PA Counties Meet CDC COVID-19 Mask Threshold

Three more PA counties report substantial spread of the coronavirus and their residents should be masked indoors, the CDC says.

PENNSYLVANIA — Three more counties in the state are reporting either high or substantial community spread of the coronavirus, according to the latest statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That means residents of 28 of the state's 67 counties should wear masks indoors even if fully vaccinated, according to CDC recommendations.

The three additional counties are Westmoreland and Venango in western Pennsylvania and York and in the eastern part of the state.

The CDC statistics cover the July 27-Aug. 2 period. In the July 26-Aug. 1 period, 25 counties had high or substantial spread; just nine counties were in those categories in the July 25-31 period.
