Big Changes Await Golfers When Pennsylvania Courses Reopen

PENNSYLVANIA - Golf courses are permitted to reopen across the state on May 1, but duffers who are expecting a return to normal on the links during the coronavirus outbreak likely will be disappointed. The Pennsylvania Golf Association, the authoritative body of amateur golf in Pennsylvania, has issued recommendations to keep golfers and staff safe that most courses likely will follow.

Here's what the new normal probably will be like:

  • All fees paid online prior to arrival.
  • Tee times at least 15 minutes apart.
  • Social distancing to be maintained at all times.
  • No caddies allowed.
  • No shared carts.
  • Staff will wear protective masks and gloves.
  • All rakes will be removed from bunkers.
  • No tees, scorecards, ball markers or other common-use items will be provided.
  • Ball washers and water coolers will be removed or marked with signage prohibiting their use.
  • Pro shops will remain closed.
  • Clubhouses will remain closed with the exception of limited restroom use.
  • Clubhouse restaurants to provide takeout food only.
